“Besides that hiccup, it also seemed too easy.” So are you saying that the DAFT process seemed suspect because it appeared unrealistic? I’m not sure what you mean about it being too easy.

Thank you for asking me to clarify. The DAFT visa seems to be one of the easiest ways to obtain a visa in the EU, especially if you already work on your own. We were coming from a several year struggle to determine how to get to Germany under various visas, all of them with various issues. For the DAFT, they don't need to see a business plan, they really only want to see that you keep a minimum of 4,500 euros in a business bank account. But not just that, the process itself is also easier. You can apply in English, and it will be much faster to be approved than in Germany, where some expats say it takes up to 9 months to be issued a visa, with long waits for appointments. Most under DAFT are approved within 60 days. We have our first appointments with the Amsterdam Gemeente within five days of arriving. I will be writing more about the process soon!

So wouldn't the NL be more appealing with an easier process, rather than another strike against it that would keep you turning to Germany?

I'm enjoying reading about your process - what an exciting, amazing move to make!

Thank you! I'm going to shift things a bit with the new business so stay tuned. A bit lighter, more European influenced design. I'm already seeing objects and design that I can turn into some kind of textile.

Oh yes! We are fully bought into the NL!! Every process so far has just been amazing. The 'bureaucracy' has been the most pleasant encounters we have ever had! And the spaces are beautiful, with cut felt panels for noise reduction, beautiful modern filing systems ... they probably think I'm crazy for complementing them on their decor but I couldn't resist!
