Just days before we shipped off our things to Europe, I received a copy of a new book that includes my work. I hastily packed it in with my sewing supplies, and finally now, I have it in my hands! Les Artistes et le Textile, by Anne-Marie Minella and Jean-Yves Bosseur is published in France but available in the U.S. My work is discussed under two themes: migration and globalization. I welcome it as a prescient start to my new life as an artist in Europe!

From the press release:
Les Artistes et le Textile, published (in French) by Les presses du réel, offers an overview of the place of textiles in contemporary visual arts around the world. Since the beginning of the 21st century, artists working with yarn and fabric have made their mark on the contemporary art world. They are present at major international events, and fairs dedicated to them are held throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
This book evokes the many innovative and singular artists who have used this medium since the end of the 19th century, and profiles the creators who have chosen it to accompany their political, economic, social or ecological initiatives. It shows that textile art remains subversive: it blurs the boundaries between fine art, applied art and design, between tradition and modernity. It highlights "peripheral" identities and cultures. By questioning the categories of "feminine" and "masculine", it blurs genres and challenges conventions.
There are many artists included with images by Anni Albers, Sophie Taeuber, Sonia Delaunay, Josep Grau-Garriga, Pierre Daquin, Alber Ayme, Cécile Borne, Yves Picquet, Caroline Coppey, Lenore Tawney, Olga de Amaral, Sheila Hicks, Simone Pheulpin, Do Ho Suh, Marie-Hélène Guelton, Joel Andrianomearisoa, Doris Salcedo, Abdoulaye Konaté, Jakkai Siributr, Aisha Khalid, Maja Bajevic, Kimsooja, Tiffany Chung, Reena Saini Kallat, Kathryn Clark, Marta Palau, Consuelo Jimenez, Tanya Aguiñiga, Jackie Amézquita, Kyungah Ham, Jéremy Gobé, Pia Camil, Võ Trân Châu, Aboubakar Fofana, Ibrahim Mahama, Teresa Margolles, Margolles & James Cohan, Tamara Kostianovsky, Thornton Dial, Faith Ringgold, Sonya Clark, Stephen Towns, Yinka Shonibare, Bob Boyer, Marie Watt, Rebecca Belmore, Paula do Prado, Maureen Gruben, Raymonde Arcier, Senga Nengudi, Haruko Crow Nishimura, Rosemarie Trockel, Ghada Amer, Joana Vasconcelos, Lin Tianmiao, Anya Paintsil, Senzeni Marasela, Billie Zangewa, Sonia Gomes, Rosana Paulino, Nadia Myre, Fiona Foley, Chiachio & Giannone, Nicholas Hlobo, Sheila Pepe, Jeffrey Gibson, Diedrick Brackens, Joyce Wieland, Victoria Andersson, Yin Xiuzhen, Virginie Rochetti, Suzanne Husky, Alexandra Kehayoglou, Nnenna Okore, Tahir Carl Karmali.
